Murcia City Council and the Local Agency for Energy and Climate Change (Alem) have been awarded in Brussels by the European Mobility Week 2009, being named one of the top ten of a total of 2,181 cities.

Thus, the municipality becomes the second consecutive year to be chosen as an example of good practice in the European Mobility Week.

The other nine cities were distinguished Arenas de San Pedro, Bologna, London, Gävle (Switzerland), Hamburg, Ivanic-Grad (Croatia), León, Ă–stersund (Switzerland) and PANEV Âľ ys (Lithuania).

Among the criteria assessed by the jury include citizen participation activities, collaboration with local businesses in the sponsorship of events, made permanent measures, among which are roads and cycle tracks of the tram extension and the measures diagnosis and planning for the municipality implemented mobility among which sustainable mobility plan of Murcia and the Bicycle Master Plan.

This award has been decided in the European Week of Sustainable Energy is an annual campaign held in Brussels and encompasses numerous conferences, lectures and courses related to energy efficiency and renewable energy.
