The University of Murcia has presented today at the Rectory the winner of the third edition of the National Research Manzano Diego López on physical and / or organic, which went to an investigation of three professors of the educational institution is about the resilience of parents of children suffering from spina bifida.
The paper, "Resilience and Disability: A positive approach to the study of parental adaptation in families of children with spina bifida, is the work of teachers and Rosa Maria Javier Corbalan Limiñana, Department of Personality, Evaluation and Psychological Treatments, and Mary Teresa Calvo, Department of Psychology and Education, who have won six thousand euros that was equipped with the award.
This paper, the University of Murcia has been published as part of the award covers only issues explored in relation to the processes of psychological adaptation of parents of a child with spina bifida and opens new avenues of research to learn how people adapt the constant stress of having a child with this disability.
The authors apply the concept of resilience to adults and understand it as an inherent part of life that can transform difficulties into possibilities, encouraging the parents use positive personal strengths, compared to the constant risk identification, disruption and vulnerability associated with the disease.
The rector, José Antonio Cobacho, who chaired the event, was the pride of the institution for this study, which complies with the obligation of the University to transfer the knowledge generated at their schools to society.
Furthermore, as indicated by the rector of Studies, Concepción Palacios, the work presented is in line with the commitment of the University of Murcia with disabilities, which makes it a national benchmark in terms of aid to this group.
The presentation attracted representatives of the award by the organizers, namely Carmen Gil, president of the Federation of Murcia People with Physical and / or Organic (FAMDIF / COCEMFE) and Isabel Sola, from the Ministry of Social Policy, Women and Immigration.
He also met the First Deputy Mayor of Totana, Juan Carrion, the Municipal Council of Fulgencio Murcia Cervantes and the president of the Regional Association of Hemophilia Murcia, Manuel Moreno.
