The University of Murcia built a machine to investigate in polyurethane foam (18/03/2010)

The University of Murcia has implemented an instrumentation research laboratory in polyurethane foam without emitting polluting gases into the atmosphere.

This is possible because the machine is the first laboratory in the world that uses technology VPF (Variable Pressure Foaming) in semi, allowing the confinement of the reactants and gaseous pollutants emanating from the process, unlike the foam manufacturing methods polyurethane currently used.

The company Interplasp SL Yecla, under the guidance of inventor John Brian Blackwell, has financed the construction in England of this team, which has invested about 100,000 euros.

The investigation, conducted by the group of "Carbohydrate Chemistry, Industrial Polymers and Additives," and directed by Professor Pedro Antonio Garcia, expected higher quality foams with properties hitherto unreached.

Another advantage of this new technology is that it gives greater security to the workers of the plant yeclana production company, which will not be exposed to chemicals, some highly toxic.

The Vice Chancellor for Research, Juan María Vázquez, highlighted in the act of commissioning of new machinery, the fact that companies devote more resources to research and development of advanced technologies, while also respecting the environment.

Vazquez said that companies can benefit from the high readiness of researchers from the University of Murcia and the knowledge generated in it.
