Murcia, host of social policies in European cities (09/03/2010)

Access to social services for disadvantaged groups will be the focus of the conference

Eurocities, which represents more than 130 capital, is the benchmark cities in the European institutions

They will discuss the experiences of Munich, Helsinki, Madrid, Barcelona and Rotterdam in the care of the underprivileged

Murcia's experience in promoting policies to combat poverty and social inclusion benefits will occupy much of the meeting in the city, the Social Affairs Forum of Eurocities.

About one hundred technicians and European politicians will attend this conference to focus attention on access to social services for disadvantaged groups, coinciding with the commemoration of the European Year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion.

The sessions, which will be based in the Hotel Silken Siete Coronas, will be held on Thursday and Friday.

The meeting will start on day 11, at 9.45 hours, with a plenary session on "how to access the most disadvantaged."

Mayor intervene, Miguel Angel House, the Deputy Mayor of Stockholm and chairman of the Social Affairs Forum of Eurocities, Ulf Kristersson, the Secretary of State for the EU Diego Lopez Garrido, and the secretary general of Eurocities, Paul Bevan, who will address the activities of the European network in the European Year against Poverty.

Programs and innovative approaches to the homeless in Madrid (Darío Pérez Wood)

Street work for community cohesion in Helsinki (Päivi Männistö)

Inclusion-exclusion of the Roma community of Murcia.

Youth, immigration and participation.

A project for social integration in Murcia (María Dolores Sánchez Alarcón)

Access to families in the Department of Child Care of Leipzig (Christin Rettke)

Access to the most vulnerable families in Rotterdam (Harrie van Onna)

Attendees will leave the meetings at the hotel to visit various facilities in which they develop programs for the underprivileged.

On Friday, the day will be devoted to working sessions of the Forum of Social Affairs.

Eurocities, the voice of cities in Europe

Eurocities is the network of major European cities, which brings together the local governments of more than 130 major cities in over 30 countries.

It is considered the main lobby of the municipalities to the EU institutions, to the extent of being the voice of cities in Europe.

The network is present in many policy areas, including economic development, environment, transport and mobility (this chaired by the Mayor of Murcia, Miguel Ángel Cámara), culture, education, employment and social services, etc.

Five Spanish cities are part of the Social Affairs Forum: Barcelona, Madrid, Murcia, Seville and Valencia, which are integrated with 90 other European cities.
