The Councillor for Environment and Urban Quality, Adela Martinez-Cache attended this week the Environmental Forum of Eurocities has had over 200 participants and representatives from 41 European countries.
The panel of political debate has been shaped by the cities of Brno, Genoa, Antwerp, Malmö, Glasgow, The Hague, Riga and Vienna, Madrid and Murcia as the only Spanish cities chosen in this great debate about the new way that cities undertake towards low carbon economy.
According to Martinez-Cache, "the focus of this conference is to achieve a sustainable city model that supports renewable energy, promote public transport, go to sustainable water use, create more green space and manage waste properly. Murcia point has been exemplary in its environmental policies, energy and combating climate change. "
The mayor has called on Madrid's need for new funding from the European Union and central government, more direct aid to cities and aid more flexible and tailored to the social reality we live: "We must implement a capital structure for finance activities under the Covenant of Mayors. "

Adela Martinez-Cache focused his speech on the need to create new jobs through the incorporation of environmental measures and energy efficiency criteria, among others.

But Martinez-Cache reiterated in Madrid that, to help cities to improve these actions, we must give them credit lines more flexible and adapted to - within a framework of European legislation - the specific local issues, increase involvement of local local decision making when national housing funds from the EU and that there is active participation in the exchange of good practices.
