Municipal facilities reported 220,000 users (compared to 67,500 in 1995), while the 81 sports schools exceeded 22,000 students

Murcia has become a must in sports.
The quality and quantity of municipal facilities, the promotion of grassroots sport and the organization of major sporting events have helped to do so.
With the motto "more sports, more and more sports facilities nearby," the Mayor, Miguel Ángel Cámara, accompanied by the Councillor for Sports, Miguel Cascales, presented this morning in the Area Action Plan Sports Hall.
Before an audience that has left smaller the Hall Annex Building, House comprehensively explained the management carried out since 1995, the projects underway and future projects to representatives of sports federations, clubs and athletes, along with presidents municipal board.
The sport is popular and promoted Murcia as a national capital and international sport has had two major consequences: first, that the neighborhoods and districts now have one of the best and largest networks of municipal facilities and that 220,000 people in sport in them.
This has been possible thanks to a policy aimed at facilitating the practice of sport for all citizens (children, adults, women, pensioners, the disabled) through expansionary budgets managed by the Department of Sports, which in 2010 grew by 211 % on the 1996 accounts.
These estimates in this period amounted to 356.5 million euros, have allowed the municipality to provide a complete and balanced network of 404 facilities comprising sports centers: 32 pavilions, 47 football pitches, 30 of them artificial turf 4 natural turf, 6 sports complexes, 21 pools of summer, 29 paddle tennis courts and 18 swimming pools.
Heated pools, installation of artificial turf soccer fields and the construction of indoor arenas have been the biggest bets of the City, in addition to building New Condomina.
Not forgetting that 15 years ago Murcia had one artificial turf field, 4 heated swimming pools and 7 blocks.
In addition to facilitating access to sport for all citizens, to have such an extensive network of facilities has a consequence in the creation of employment: 825 people have a job in cleaning and maintenance, and as monitors of sports.
Athletes from school
The quality and quantity of centers that integrate the municipal network is supplemented by the impetus to sports programs, as a priority to promote access to sport Murcia.
Within these play a major role the Sports School, with 70,150 participants and 147 organizations, and the 81 School Sports, which offered 21 different modes and 22,741 registered students.
800 teams, more than 20,000 players, 60,000 bathers who come to the summer swimming and 44,000 users benefiting from the more than 100 sports activities offered by the Sports Department.
This makes a total of 220,224 users -51.15% of the population who play sports in municipal, private and excluding those who do outdoors.
Future goals
At present, 7 are under construction covered pavilions, a soccer field and two sports complexes with a total investment of 21.2 million euros.
Throughout 2010, the actions envisaged by the Department amounted to 6.4 billion euros and include, among other projects, the construction of three pavilions and a sports court, along with investments in repairs and maintenance.
The key objectives of the coming years in terms of sports infrastructure can be specified in three:
Creating the Olympic Center: result of an agreement signed between the municipality and the Spanish Olympic Committee, Murcia will host an international reference sports complex to be located in the Avenida Juan de Borbon.
Sports Complex in the heart of the city: the land of 23,000 square meters occupied by Condomina Stadium will host a new sports facilities will complete the offer in the heart of Murcia.
Covered sports courts: in the next 6 years covered sports courts will be built in all villages that now have them.
