The school Our Lady of Arrixaca, Vistalegre and CEIP Infanta Cristina, Bacons Bridge are, officially, "Green Schools."

The Mayor, Miguel Ángel Cámara, accompanied by the Councillor for Education, Pilar Megía, this morning visited both schools and found the plates, starting today, are credited as such.

The recognition means that they have approved more than their environmental audit, which involves observing sustainability criteria in their school activities and have a heightened environmental awareness.

In the visit to both schools, the Mayor held a discussion with students who were interested in issues as varied as the future tramway, dirt caused by dogs in the streets and gardens, recycling of materials or energy .

In the case of the school Our Lady of Arrixaca, children decorate their students throughout the school as if it is a huge, lush forest and conducted a contest for stories about nature.

The interest in incorporating measures that benefit the environment has been one of the main arguments that has earned them recognition.

Among his proposals highlighted in the parks installing seats with bags to collect the feces, put more paper and have a section for butts, install street lights with solar panels that work at school and encouraged the use of the new tram.

In addition, they promoted a campaign to save water and noise in the middle, made separate collection in the dining room and send the cooking oil to an authorized agent.

The project began in the 2001-2002 academic year and has since involved a total of 45 schools and colleges and 14 have been awarded this distinction.
