This week was held the annual meeting of the officers of Pork Prices, Cattle and Sheep in the Marketplace Mercamurcia cattle, that has had the participation of many representatives of the livestock sector in the Region of Murcia.
The meeting also served to deliver the traditional commemorative plaques in recognition of the contribution of the progress of the livestock, meat distribution and marketing in the region to two components of the Bureau of Sheep, and Adolfo Alfonso Núñez Sánchez Galera Mompeán
Alfonso Galera, sheep rancher Fuente Alamo, would enhance its unconditional spirit to defend the interests of farmers, first as president of the ADS of Fuente Alamo for over 20 years and another for driving initiatives such as the construction of the headquarters of the Chamber of Agriculture of Fuente Alamo or of the Bureau of the Market Sheep Cattle Mercamurcia.
Adolfo Núñez, promoter of the new form of the Bureau of Sheep in the Marketplace, we wanted to highlight the path of a whole family saga in the service of distribution and marketing of lamb, which began with his father as a pioneer of this activity the old slaughterhouse in Murcia and continued by his brothers and himself, making his name in one of the most prestigious in the industry.
During the course of the meeting, Mercamurcia manager and president of the Exchange, Martin Peña, also made an assessment of farming in the Region of Murcia in 2009.
He stressed that after "difficult year 2008 for the livestock sector has endured, we can consider that 2009 has ended in an acceptable manner."
"Although there has been a decline in demand, which has a bigger impact on sheep and cattle than in pigs, has also been a decline in production, especially sheep and cattle rather than in pigs."
Peña has also stressed that the price level achieved was not bad, especially sheep, an increase of 4.7% in cattle, with 2.2%.
In pigs, the results have been a little worse, down 5% on the price of pig bait, although there has been a 39% increase in the price of pork.
This situation, coupled with the decline in feed prices reduced production costs, have enabled it to maintain, in general, livestock enterprises in a certain level of profitability.
