At this point it is undeniable that cinema screens has invaded eastern half of the world getting success with audiences and critics in equal measure.
But from the excellence offered by the whole Eastern cinema draws particular attention to the case in South Korea has managed to become the incredible period of 8 years in world reference of the best movies.
Castilla Gates has made a selection of these films for their first cycle of Korean cinema, with the collaboration of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea:
Christmas in August (Christmas in August), directed by Hur Jin-ho, introduces us to a Jung-won (Han Seok-Kyu) who unexpectedly finds his remaining few days of life, and after deciding to stay in his little photo shop watching their customers discover the beautiful Da-rim (Shim Eun-ha) and from that moment everything changed in his life.
This is one of the early work of director Hur Jin-ho, who has two great performers of Korean cinema, Han Seok-kyu (The Contact, Green Fish and Shiri) and Shim Eun-ha (Art Museum by the zoo and Tell Something I) selected in the Cannes festival in 1998.
Hur Jin-ho (1963) studied at the Korean Academy of Film Arts where he made several short films, worked as assistant director for Park Kwang-su and then throw to the address with Christmas in August (1998).
He also directed One Fine Spring Day, April Snow and Happines.
Memories of Murder (Chronicle of a serial murderer), directed by Bong Joon-ho, fictional events in 1986 in the province of Gyunggi (South Korea), where a girl is brutally raped and murdered.
What I could not imagine the Korean people would be just the first of the victims and who were first brought to the figure of a serial murderer.
Award at San Sebastian with the Silver Shell for Best Director in 2003 and Best Screenplay and Audience Award at the Turin Film Festival, considered by Quentin Tarantino as one of the best films of recent years.
BONG Joon-ho (1969), director of films like White Man (1993) and Incoherence (1994) with his boundless imagination has achieved the international screen with various films like Barking Dogs Never Bite (2000), Memories of Murder (2003) The Host (2006) and Mother (2009).
Chihwaseon (drunk women and painting), the new film kown-taek Im narrates the life of Jang Seung-up artist, who changed the course of Korean art.
After finding inspiration in the earthly pleasures comes to alcohol and tortured relationships.
While Jang continues his search for artistic transcendence, expanding the boundaries of traditional Korean art and becomes a global artistic reference.
Im Kwon-taek (1936) is one of the most respected figures in Korean cinema, his work is characterized by the reflection of the traditions in Modern Korea.
Highlight their works Mandala (1981), Sopyonje (1993), Chunhyang (2000) and Chihwaseon (2002).
In 2007 he made his 100th film, Beyond the Years.
These three films will be at 21h on Monday 8, Tuesday 9 and Friday 10 February at the auditorium doors Castilla, with free entrance until full capacity.
