The Museum of Science and Water will bring us closer to Antarctica through 'The Endurance' (03/02/2010)

Once again, with the aim of bringing the whole society and science culture, the city of Murcia, through the Department of Culture, in cooperation with Caixa Catalunya, the exhibition presents "Caught in the Ice ', focused the expedition was Ernest Shackleton in Antarctica.

The exhibition can be seen at the Museum of Science and Murcia Water from 4 February to April 4, 2010.

Atrapados en el Hielo documenta uno de los más increíbles episodios de supervivencia en la historia de las expediciones y reúne, por primera vez, todo el material fotográfico y cinematográfico del fotógrafo australiano Frank Hurley, realizadas durante la travesía de Shackleton de 1914.

The exhibition features over 167 black and white photographs and color that have been made from the original negative plates and Hurley, as well as album of photographs that he took aboard the Endurance.

We present also a number of additional content on Antarctica, such as interactive training materials that explain and contextualize the Endurance adventure.

The exhibition is co-produced with the American Museum of Natural History in New York.

With this sample, explain the special features of the frozen continent.

Along with the images will be displayed through innovative means, the extraordinary characteristics of the land, ice and Antarctic seas, the difficulties of living and moving in its harsh environment, the importance for the whole world of research there are made and how, thanks to the Antarctic Treaty, the territory has become a symbol of the International Cooperation and Environmental Protection.

Activities, dates and inscriptions.

Alongside the exhibition, will take out other activities such as interactive projections and materials on the issue of Shackleton and Antarctica.

There will be a guided tour of Jerome Lee, curator of the exhibition, during which it can meet the special conditions of the continent as a Centre for Research on climate change.

Las actividades se completarán con un ciclo de documentales basados en la expedición y el continente antártico como la película original de la aventura South, filmada por Hurley, el documental 'Atrapados en el hielo' de George Butler, ' Encuentros en el fin del mundo' y 'La Antártida, una aventura de naturaleza diferente'.

In addition, there will be a lecture on "Leadership: past, present and future in times of crisis' at the hands of Roberto Quiroga, United Nations expert and professor at ESADE.
