The City of Murcia has participated in Madrid on the 1st Technical Seminar on the National Register of Bicycles and Bicycle Safety and Bicycle, organized by the Network of Cities for Bike to discuss ways and open proposals to protect bicycles from theft, and ensure users.
The aim is to improve the situation of cycling in the mobility and achieve an increase in the number of users and improve the movement in the city, considering that the bike is now gaining prominence in urban mobility.
Murcia City Council is part of the board of the Network of Cities for Bicycle.
According to the Barometer of the Bicycle, Spanish 23 million and 15 million bicycles have are users with some frequency, yet the robberies were an obstacle to promoting the use of this vehicle.
In the papers involving experts like Esther Anaya, a specialist in pedestrian and bicycle mobility, public transportation and urban design; Guus Weeselink, Director of The Foundation for Trackling Vehicle Crime, spoke about the Dutch example in the registration of bicycles and Candelaria Mederos Head of the Planning and Participation of National Road Safety Observatory of the DGT, who spoke on accidents involving cyclists.
Likewise, in the conference participated insurance companies offered proposals to cover accidents and bicycle riders.
The Network of Cities for Bike seeks to create a dynamic between the Spanish cities in order to facilitate a safer and circulation developing cyclists especially in urban areas.
The association was formed in March 2009 and is chaired by the mayor of San Sebastian, Odon Elorza.
Murcia City Council is part of the Board.
The Network of Cities for Bike aims to:
-Strengthen the promotion of cycling.
-Promote the bicycle from the Spanish authorities.
"Getting people to cycle more attractive and safe.
-Increase the infrastructure for cycling and to improve and promote existing ones.
"Getting more financial resources for the promotion of cycling.
"Intensifying the process of collaboration with all parties involved.
"Getting that tax incentives for bicycle use.
-Promote intermodality and multimodality.
-Defend the potential of the bicycle as a vehicle quiet, clean, affordable and sustainable.
-To promote its use as a mobility tool alternative to the car and bike on short trips.
-Create urban spaces for most trips can be done by bicycle.
-Improve and increase the network of routes, both in urban and interurban.
