In 2010 will expand the number of collection points
The City of Murcia, through Germany, the Local Agency for Energy and Climate Change in Murcia, has collected 1,600 kilos of lamps for recycling in the past year.
This initiative is part of recycling plan luminaries launched in August last year.
The lamps are recycled fluorescent tubes and light bulbs because they contain a gas with a small amount of mercury that become waste dangerous pollutants.
The City has 8 special containers to deposit these lamps, which are located in the City Hall Annex Building, home of ALEM (street Azarbe Paper, 22, compared with Zigzag), mayor of Cabezo de Torres, Zarandona, El Palmar and La Alberca , North District Council (Av. Miguel de Cervantes) and the District Board El Carmen (Alameda Capuchin.)
For 2010 it is considering a new system to replace the containers boxes smaller, more manageable and thus more points distributed by the municipality.
Fluorescent tubes and energy saving lamps are the most efficient option to save energy and reduce emissions of greenhouse gases by consuming 80% less energy and last 15 times longer than incandescent bulbs.
These bulbs need to be recycled to avoid contamination and that a single bulb can contaminate 35,000 liters of water.
Should never be thrown away or conventional containers.
You need to be recycled and present them at special points.
Filament bulbs are collected for their management as waste through the City Ecopoints network, its management is different because it does not contain mercury.
This initiative aims to help fulfill Recycling Directive European Union came into force in 2005, and indicates that manufacturers of these products are responsible for the management of waste generated.
In Spain in charge of managing this waste is AMBILAMP.
The City of Murcia and recycles 100% of the lights used in street lighting, as well as all offices and municipal facilities.
ALEM The objective of this campaign is to extend to each and every one of the homes, businesses and the municipality and make people aware, with small acts such as recycling of light bulbs and energy saving lamps.
The recycling of glass present in a single lamp prevents the emission of nearly 10kg of CO2 to the atmosphere, equivalent to the CO2 absorbed by 800 trees over a year, or emitted by a car for a day and a half.
AMBILAMP recycle 28 million lamps to prevent emission of 300,000 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere.
