Murcia will have on its territory with 545 kilometers of track cycling trails that will turn the bike on a daily urban transport mode.
Besides the design of the bicycle route network, success will depend largely on achieving calm traffic, distribution of promotional and parking.
This will fulfill the objective of the government team and announced by the Mayor, Miguel Ángel Cámara, betting on a sustainable mobility based on the bicycle, walking and public transport.
The municipality has made 918,684 trips daily, of which 1.1%-that is, 10,115, are made by bicycle and 48% in private vehicles.
It is estimated that currently there are about 5,000 users of the bike.
Murcia now has 88.7 kilometers of track cycling trails and roads are planned friendly and 198.2 miles (of which 124.5 correspond to partial plans approved 16.9 to the villages of the Coastal North and South and 42 the districts of the City of Murcia and 14.8 in other planned road).
The proposed Master Plan for the Use of the Bicycle in Murcia is to achieve a network of 545 km, for which 258 kilometers will be built more:
42 kilometers in the center of the city: most (40%) are presented as ciclocalles, 36% in sidewalks or green areas and 24% as segregated lanes.
- 186 km in the districts of North and South Coastal: 91% will be ciclocalles
30 km in the districts of Campo de Murcia.
The criteria to establish the ways in Murcia cycling trails are:
Creating a grid throughout the municipality that is secure, consistent, accessible, connected and facilitate modal shift.
Primar sharing the road (ciclocalle) whenever possible, preferably on streets with low traffic intensities.
On roads with higher traffic intensities to 5,000 vehicles per day, there is the
carril bici segregado .

But not only that.
Measures are also known cycling infrastructure planning, the network of parks and measures to promote their use.
The Mayor, Miguel Ángel Cámara, presided this morning the last meeting held on the working group, which was attended by representatives of universities, professional associations, neighborhood associations and bicycle users, among others.
To integrate cycling as a means of urban mobility is necessary to act on 4 basic pillars: a network of bike lanes, parking, traffic calmed and promotional campaigns.
