Should be integrated with the tram and incorporate a restructuring of the lines and stops, while simplifying the tariff system
Murcia will have this summer of a new model of public transport "efficient, effective, modern and responsive to the needs of citizens", which should be implemented in 2011.
That is the charge that the mayor has sent to the Technical Committee for the Improvement of Public Transport, which has become today with the assistance of the two-sector companies and tram Latbus Murcia, technicians from the municipal council of the Ministry of Works Public and Public Transport Authority and representatives of the UTE Taryet-Sener, in charge of the mobility.
This complements the technical committee of citizen participation committee was formed last week.
The main objective is to establish a new model to invite greater use of public transport in Murcia.
This will need to move towards a new configuration of lines, improve accessibility and to encourage integration with the tram line 1 which will become operational in 2011, but also providing the other three lines that connect the corners of the municipality.
Other significant changes will increase the number of stops and promote the proximity to large groups of residential, commercial, sports and leisure.
In parallel, another precondition is to determine the tariff unification, simplifying the current complex and outdated system, either by establishing a single price for all the field or opting for distance reference.
Surely there will be a fee that can run on a tram or bus indiscriminately with one ticket.
The Mayor has also made progress also will be new ways to encourage use of public transport by workers, students, pensioners, etc.
This will result in a new map of public transport to replace the current, which dates from 1985 and is superseded by the reality of the Murcia of today and no longer meets the needs of citizens.
The design of the new model should be completed by June and implemented in 2011 and should serve to allow greater use of the bus.
At the same time, also is working to implement a specific transport system both vine the Industrial West, and for the hospital Virgen de la Arrixaca and the two campuses.
