The Councillor of Tourism & Conventions, Maria Isabel Valcárcel, met with the manager of the Convention Bureau of the Municipality of Murcia, Ramón Palazón, the head of Hostemur-Hotels, Jesus Pacheco, and the president and vice president of Professional Organizers Congress (OPC) Region of Murcia, Antonio Garcia and Teresa Díez, respectively, to explore strategies to attract events, conferences and meetings at Murcia.

The purpose of this meeting, the first of a series of meetings is to work together to find new ways to encourage the holding of conferences and promoting tourism in the city.

Conference tourism generated during 2008, 46.7 million euros, being celebrated in the town 1,008 meetings with 127,120 participants, according to the study conducted annually by the Congress Bureau of the Department of Tourism of the City.

These figures considerably exceed the average of the previous four years (2004 to 2007) in which they performed an average of 633 meetings with 100,773 participants.
