The socialist mayor María Dolores Abellon PP municipal requests to join the call for cooperation made by the FEMP (Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces) in Spanish local governments to the tragic situation that exists in Haiti following the devastating earthquake that has plagued its major cities.
From Spain, both the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECI) and various NGOs, have already established mechanisms for channeling aid to the emergency.
It is important, says Abellon-coordinating with the AECI (http://www.aecid.es/) and NGOs working in Haiti for humanitarian aid from reaching our town can send as soon as possible and the most effective way possible.
Some of the NGOs that are working in Haiti are: Red Cross, International Solidarity, Oxfam, Caritas and Doctors Without Borders, which, besides working in the area, maintain open lines of support for this emergency or bank accounts for the purpose.
Also, the socialists ask the mayor of Murcia to mobilize civil society and NGOs in the municipality to provide the highest colaboracióncon the people of Haiti, the poorest country in Latin America and, last but not least, now suffer the terrible consequences of the devastating earthquake.
