The Deputy Mayor for Social Welfare Policy and Equality, María del Carmen Pelegrin, this morning held a meeting with representatives of the Association of Friendly Murcia Bolillo to specify what will be the next national gathering of lace makers.
The meeting, which may take place on March 14, will host lace all over Spain, which will bring this tradition so ingrained Murcia.
Maria del Carmen Pelegrin has stressed that the meeting last year, which brought together nearly a thousand of lace makers from all parts of Spain, was well received, and held in the Pavilion and brought to San Basilio artisans and craftsmen of bobbin lace from Spain.
During the day, the lace demonstrations of this art craft designs produced, exchanged pictures and answered questions of the many people who came to inquire about their work.
Pelegrín hoped that the next meeting has the great success of previous editions, while noted that the City of Murcia will further enhance this activity is so ingrained in the municipality.
The origin of lace, like any craft, it is difficult to determine.
For some authors the origins of lace can be found already at the time of the pharaohs, as the Egyptians used in their ceremonial robes similar to lace trims.
Are retained even mesh tunics made of knotted strings that hold ornaments with bovine bone leads with wire windings, which can be considered forerunners of modern batons.
Assyrians also had in their suits a lot of bands and ornaments that can be considered as precursors of the trimmings.
Also in the Iberian peninsula, the ancient Iberians used similar motifs to the trimmings.
We can therefore say that the art of lace making began in several countries at the same time, in countries bordering the Mediterranean and trade relations with the East.
