The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Murcia has made dissection of African elephant weighing 3,500 kilos has died in a safari of Alicante for a chronic process was complicated because of the low temperatures prevailing in the area.
This elephant, originally from Zimbabwe and more than 20 years of age, had a bronchopneumonia which was aggravated by low temperatures, leading to his death from cardiorespiratory failure.
Upon arriving at the premises of the Faculty, on the campus of Espinardo, this animal was dissected and different parts of their anatomy will be retained by the plastination technique and will go to swell the funds of the Veterinary Anatomy Museum available to this center.
The Museum also has a copy of an adult giraffe and recently received another giraffe that died at birth.
It also has an extensive collection of biological material from animals of different classes that make it one of the most comprehensive of its kind.
