ASEAN members have identified the presence of otters (Lutra lutra) in the vicinity of the city of Murcia.
The Association has been working on the study and improvement of biodiversity in the Contraparada with support from the City of Murcia and the Segura basin.
Recently, biologists from the Association of Southeast Naturalists have identified numerous recent evidence of the presence of otter (Lutra lutra) in various parts of the Contraparada.
The veracity of the tracks has been confirmed by regional experts on the species [i], who indicated that they had also found some evidence in the presence of the species.
The otter (Lutra lutra) is a mammal associated with watercourses and water bodies are protected under the category of "Endangered Species" by Law 7 / 95 and is a species of Community Interest under the Habitats Directive.
In recent years, this species has recovered part of their historical areas of occupation by improving water quality and the consequent increase in stock.
ANSE has been doing various volunteer activities, environmental education and biodiversity monitoring to raise awareness of ecological values that have the Contraparada.
ANSE activities have been supported by the City of Murcia and the Segura basin.
The Contraparada is a dam from where the main canals of the Huerta de Murcia.
This enclave declared of Cultural Interest is located only 12 km from the city of Murcia and is one of the many historical and cultural sites from the farm to rescue from oblivion.
The Association believes that the presence of otters should encourage the authorities to accelerate the improvement projects and restoration of the river Segura, particularly the recovery of riparian forest as recently announced the Segura basin (CHS).
