The Directorate General of Fine Arts and Cultural Heritage has launched today the declaration file of Cultural Property in the St. Stephen site archaeological site due to its size and density of its urban fabric.
After initiating the file, the site has the highest degree of protection that is given to the estate.
From now on the record will follow the legal and administrative proceedings for the final declaration of cultural interest.
The Directorate General of Fine Arts has waited for the meeting of the Committee of Experts to open this file, because we had to decide not only the degree of protection of the site but also the legal definition applicable to this case because the Cultural Heritage Act Murcia distinguish between Historic Sites, Monuments, a Historical and Archaeological Zone, among others.
Since the Committee of Experts will advise the Regional Directors throughout the recovery process and deposit musealization of San Esteban, it seemed necessary to voice its opinion on a bill that gives the maximum legal protection of cultural property.
