The Vice President for Business and Infrastructure of the University of Murcia, in collaboration with the Conference of Rectors of Spanish Universities (CRUE), organized a meeting on using the R programming language aimed at Spanish-speaking users.
During the conference addressed the role of the free software project and teaching as a scientific instrument, and also agreed the establishment of a community to encourage the use of R in the Hispanic world and produce materials in Spanish.
R is the language and programming environment used for statistical analysis and graphics and is very popular also in the field of biomedical research, bioinformatics and financial mathematics.
The meeting, held at the Faculty of Computer Science, was broadcast live over the Internet, by the Department of Information Technology and Communications Applied (ATIC), came to have up to 267 connections, many of them, Latin America.
