The Board of the University of Murcia, Juan Bernal presiding, approved the budget of this educational institution for 2010, amounting to an amount close to 227 million euros, representing an increase over 2009's six percent.
Budgets, which are sensitive to the economic situation in the country, collecting decreases in almost all the Vice-Rectors, as they only grow funds for research, with a 12.61 percent increase, and the Economy and Infrastructure, which rose by 6.43 percent.
The manager of the University of Murcia, Pedro Galvez Social Council was informed by the budget document as innovation includes the introduction of a consignment of 1.5 million euros for the Contingency Fund, which will be faced with unforeseen expenses.
For the growth of six percent, Gálvez has indicated that basically due to the projected investments and legal obligations that the University has to address, "and that way we are dealing with expansionary budgets."
Regarding income, the manager has indicated that in the chapter on taxes and public prices are projected to increase from 8.15 percent as a result of the increasing number of students.
The Council also approved a cooperation agreement to subscribe to the Health Service of Murcia by regulating the use of health facilities dependent on it in the training of medical students who complete degrees and to the development of research in the field of Health Sciences.
At the request of student representation in Social Council itself, this body has approved creating a committee that drafted the proposal for institutional delivery on dysfunctions noticed in the practice of nursing students in hospitals to attend the public university and those of private.
Likewise, students want the Board to rule on the enforcement of the law to the private university in the implementation of new studies.
The Social Council has approved an institutional declaration on the implementation of new degrees in its February 2008 meeting, but representatives of the students believe that there have been new developments, such as the signing of an agreement between the Ministry of Health and private universities, that require a new standard.
