The Department of Prehistory, Archaeology, Ancient History, Medieval History and Historiography of Science and Technology, University of Murcia has rejected the reports and comments attributed to actions taken against Professor Javier García del Toro to his attitude on the site of San Esteban.
In a statement released today, the Department has stated that "never promoted any action, at least, opening a file for this teacher in relation to its position on the field, not only because it would be manifestly contrary to law and minimal professional ethics, but also because the file is open for almost eight months. "
He added that opening the file "has been for a few facts relating exclusively to teaching duties relating to more than a year and prior periods, and that has to do with alleged irregularities in the development of responsible teaching."
The Department also asserts that "this professor did not figure in the reorganization of teaching conducted in the Area of Prehistory, in two subjects, one annual and one to a close, simply with the aim of ensuring that students and some minimum substitute teacher working conditions after two months of absence of Professor García del Toro. "
"It is false, says the university authority, which has been withdrawn teaching, it is their obligation to attend even a subject of the second quarter."
It also notes that the action against him "at all is discipline, much less, in retaliation, and to say otherwise is not only false but libelous, since it has been taken to the absolute impossibility that is our faculty to take on the numerous , low and intermittent and unexpected absences of the teacher, who generate an insecurity among students at all unacceptable. "
The statement concludes that the measure has the support of all members of the Department, "including student representatives."
