ANSE denounces the destruction of protected salt marsh of the Boquera of Tabal (Murcia) (03/12/2009)

ANSE denounced the installation of a processing plant materials known as the Rann of Tabal Boquera (Zeneta, Murcia).

This enclave is protected by the General Plan of Murcia as "environmentally sensitive area."

The plant has been installed by companies PLOD AND CHM for the construction of the highway Santomera-San Javier promoted by the Ministry of Public Works and Planning.

ANSE technicians have found that the treatment plant material (about 5 ha) and a collection of land (about 3 ha) have buried a third of protected salt marsh known as Boquera of Tabal (Zeneta, Murcia), affecting areas with better preserved.

The work carried out by the UTE Zenete (PLOD and CHM) has been made during the construction of the highway Santomera-San Javier, a project promoted by the Ministry of Public Works and Planning.

The Boquera of Tabal is a criptohumedal (a type of wetland characteristic of the Iberian Southeast where the water is very near the soil surface) was considered the most important wetlands in the municipality of Murcia1.

For this reason, Murcia PGMO of protection granted planning its classification as "environmentally sensitive area of the Boquera Cabezo Tabalá and Black."

The plan itself lists it as the "land of higher value or environmental potential, to be devoted to conservation uses and enjoyment of nature."

The plant and material stockpiles have meant the destruction of several habitats of Community interest (European Union legislation) and several species of protected flora.

In short, the Boquera of Tabal was one of the most valuable from the standpoint of natural municipality of Murcia, as policy makers have expressed Hall Communication2 before mass.

ANSE believes that both the city of Murcia as the Highways Agency should have worked diligently to prevent the alteration (possibly irreversible) in the Rann of Boquera of Tabal.

For this reason, the Association has submitted complaints to the Autonomous Community (Directorate General of Roads, DG Natural Heritage and Biodiversity, Department of Planning, Evaluation and Environmental Control), the Municipality of Murcia (Department of Environment and Planning Department) at SEPRONA and Segura basin calling responsibilities are purged.

The Southeastern Association of Naturalists has been warning since the start of processing the project, environmental impact would these works.

Thus, in September, a letter was sent to the Director José Ballesta transmitting the Association's concern about the environmental effects it was having the construction of the highway Santomera-San Javier.

Recently had asked the Highways various information on the project's environmental issues.
