Councilwoman Maria Dolores Sanchez visits the Initial Vocational courses
More than 1,600 students have participated in these courses since the program launched
The Employment Department of the City of Murcia offers training for 152 youths, aged between 16 and 17, who have dropped out of school to learn a trade.
This program develops Initial Vocational Training Center and Employment Initiatives located in La Fica.
The Councillor for Youth and Employment, María Dolores Sánchez, visited this morning to the young students to welcome the new course has just begun.
This program has enrolled 152 students in 9 profiles are:
Facilities Electrical and Communications
Welding and Metal Buildings (2 groups)
Kitchen
Barber
Aesthetics
Computers
Plumbing-Air Conditioning (2 groups)
Vehicle Maintenance (2 groups)
The training activities of the course began on October 15 and end on July 30, 2010.
These young people have dropped out in 2 nd or 3 rd of secondary school and want training in a trade.
Most are boys (75.5%), compared with 24.5% of girls, being 40.78% immigrants, mainly from Morocco and Ecuador.
Murcia City Council has been conducting such programs since 1992.
Since then 121 have been given
profiles more than 1,600 students.
The goal of these programs is that students achieve professional competences of a Level 1 qualification, the National Catalogue of Professional Qualifications, as well as providing the possibility of a successful job placement or continue their studies in different courses.
Vocational Training programs can last up to 2 years.
The first year is taught in Secondary Education Centers, Municipalities, Associations of Municipalities, private business entities and nonprofit.
It trains students in general training modules related to curriculum content of the first cycle of Compulsory Secondary Education and modules intended to acquire the skills of selected professional qualification.
Furthermore, there are 150 hours in work practices.
Students who pass this first year may enroll in the second course, taught only in secondary education centers whose purpose is to obtain the Certificate in ESO
