The Deputy Mayor for Social Welfare Policy and Equality, María Carmen Pelegrin, received this morning, several members of the Federation of Senior Citizens' Centres in the municipality to address the organization of training courses that are taught in schools of higher social .
The central theme of the meeting was to capitalize on the economic resources for the program of courses by reorganizing them for next year, a fact that has been necessary to carry out because of the economic crisis.
The promotion of older people is developed through Project Training Courses in the areas of culture, education, health, leisure, social and voluntary cooperation.
Remember that the City Council annually for the 76 centers performed a range of training courses, which can be theoretical and practical training, workshops, lectures, or more practical and gerontogimnasia, painting and dancing.
The courses have an average of 40 hours and are scheduled from October to June.
The aim is to promote and improve the personal quality of life of older people, enrich their personal resources, help prevent and improve situations of loneliness or depression, providing meeting places and social participation.
Moreover, this offer is completed with the proposals made by the schools.
Among the most requested courses and with greater participation stand out: those of gerontogimnasia, ballroom dancing, theater, memory training, education and health promotion, self esteem and social skills.
Further, the courses are taught by teachers specializing in their own local associations.
