The installation of astronomical clocks in public lighting each year fail to deliver nearly 700 tons of CO2 (18/10/2009)

The City continues to put in place various measures to help combat climate change.

One of the latest actions is the installation of astronomical clocks in street lighting, replacing the previous photoelectric cells.

This system calculates the sunrise and sunset, depending on location, letting you know exactly what time it is necessary to turn the street lights.

Currently 50% of lighting controls already have this mechanism.

Thanks to this action the City will save a total of 1,975,826 kwh / year which is off the air annually 692 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere.

On the other hand, has also increased the period of time "regime of flow reduction," which means reducing the power of lighting, half hour ahead of saving the entry night.

This will save 112,973 kwh / year which translates into 39.55 tons of CO2 per year.

Furthermore, the City Council, in collaboration with the Local Climate Change of Murcia, is changing this year to 4,000 points of light were other mercury sodium vapor.

At the end of 2008, recorded a total of 83,829 mercury-free lamps in the municipality.

Regarding the development of municipal power consumption, the consumption point of light has fallen from 2004 through 2007 by 0.8%, which saves 11335kwh/año, ie a saving of 3.97 tonnes of CO2 year.

Remember that holiday lighting is also efficient.

The technology used is the lack of infrared emission and ultraviolet, visible light alone, consumption 10 times less energy than a conventional bulb, and reduction in each of more than half a tonne of CO2 emitted into the atmosphere by which in total is reduced power consumption by 60%.

It also reduces the ignition time of two hours a day, contributing to the overall decline in electricity consumption.

Another measure that the City is undertaking to improve the energy efficiency of public aviation l is the replacement of conventional traffic lights with LED technology for another.

So 2000 is already installed optical led before the end of the year 9981 will be installed over optical.

And it will come to 58.7% of the town lights.

In total, traffic lights will be switched to LED at the end of this year will be approximately 890.

We must remember also that the Governing Board approved last June, the new Light Pollution Ordinance of Exterior Lighting, a pioneer in Spain in the required level of energy efficiency, sets the criteria for energy efficiency and pollution prevention the night sky to be met by external lighting installations of the municipality both public and private.
