The Austerity Plan of the University of Murcia has brought to it an estimated saving of 4 million euros, as highlighted today at the press conference presenting the 2009 results.
The Vice Chancellor for Business and Infrastructure, Antonio Calvo-Flores, said in the presentation, held in the building of the Rectory, that the achievement of these data has been provided by the state of the university when the Plan was implemented.
Murcia University, said the Vice Chancellor, prior to 2009, was below the average Spanish universities is current spending.
Total savings achieved by the University this year, 2.5 million correspond to the absence of deviations from the initial allocation of 22 works completed in 2009.
In this section, has also affected the implementation of the electronic auction system for procurement, which has saved over one million euros in the allocation of power electronics.
With respect to consumption, the educational institution has achieved savings of 1.5 million euros, partly by reducing telephone usage, electricity, water and CO2 emissions, which, in addition to the resulting economic effect has been resulted in a major environmental benefit.
The replacement of analog phones with IP technology by others to have saved than 160,000 euros, while changes in exterior and interior lighting has meant a significant reduction in consumption of light.
Air conditioners with inverter technology and the use of shading in buildings are other measures implemented to reduce consumption.
Water saving has been possible, among other things, dual flush tanks, cooling towers or air cooled condenser installation of taps with a timer, like the purchase of electric cars and bicycles have contributed to the reduction CO2 emissions.
New technologies have also been important in this cost containment.
There have been changes in administrative processes, with the introduction of electronic invoicing and scanning software to create copies certified in electronic format.
These and other ICT activities have produced an estimated savings of 33,430 euros, without reducing the environmental impact caused by the consumption of paper.
For 2010, the University of Murcia continue these actions and take other measures such as reducing printing system with ink and toner consumption and increasing the number of products purchased through the centralized purchasing system.
In the presentation of the results of the Plan involved the general secretary of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, Luis Alfonso Martínez, and the rector of the University, José Antonio Cobacho.
Cobacho referred to the importance of an efficient and responsible use of public resources and was convinced of the desirability of a plan of this nature regardless of economic status.
