The Councillor for the Environment of the City of Murcia, Adela Martinez-cache, and the director general of Natural Heritage and Biodiversity, Pablo Fernandez, presented yesterday the first phase of a comprehensive prevention plan and fire management of the Regional Park Valley-Carrascoy the residents of La Alberca and surrounding areas.
This Plan analyzes the risk of forest fires, provides for measures to improve infrastructure to protect against forest fires and create a deterrent surveillance program.
The plan developed in 2009-2012, comprising the first phase from December 2009 until May 2010.
Among the activities planned for this date include the construction of 10 firebreaks, 5 auxiliary belts, a water storage tank, two access controls and the installation of information boards.
Regional Park-Carrascoy Valley covers an area of 17,410 hectares.
This is a public use area with significant environmental and cultural facilities.
Regional Park is the most visited and a half million visitors annually.
69% of its surface has very high danger of forest fires due to weather conditions and type of vegetation.
