The director general of Natural Heritage and Biodiversity, Pablo Fernández, accompanied by the Councillor for the Environment of the City of Murcia, Adela Martinez Cacho, presented today in Murcia (at 20:30 pm in the Auditorium of La Alberca) the first phase comprehensive prevention plan and fire management Regional Park-Carrascoy Valley, to make it known to the neighborhood associations in the affected areas.
The Plan will have an investment of 1,890,000 euros financed by La Caixa in the period 2009-2012, whose main objectives are to analyze the current risk of forest fires, awareness and establish guidelines for reconciling interests (with particular emphasis on areas urban boundary and crosses the park) and creating a deterrent surveillance program and improve infrastructure to protect against forest fires.
Regional Park-Carrascoy Valley has an area of 17,410 hectares covering the municipalities of Murcia, Alhama de Murcia and Fuente Alamo.
It is also declared Site of Community Importance (SCI) and Special Protection Area for Birds (SPA).
Because he is an urban park Mount Valley is an area for public use that has significant environmental facilities, as it is the most visited Regional Park, with a million and half visitors a year.
69 percent of its surface has a high danger of forest fires due to climatic conditions, type of vegetation and slopes that exist in this area.
First stage
The first phase of this Plan will run from December 2009 to May 2010 and provides for the implementation of linear systems and schedules preventive defense interpretation, with an investment of 500,000 euros.
Specifically, we carried out 10 fire areas (4 of them in urban perimeter), 5 auxiliary belts and the construction of a reservoir to store water, 2 access controls and installing informational signage.
