The larger focus of a conference in the UCAM (02/10/2009)

UCAM has welcomed today the XIV Conference of the Society of Geriatrics and Gerontology Murcia which will conclude tomorrow with the meeting of the General Assembly.

Under the title, 'Updates multidisciplinary geriatrics and gerontology', many experts will speak on different aspects of health of older people.

The former medical director of the Spanish Olympic Committee, gave the keynote address in which he has lectured on aging muscular system, bone and joint in the elderly.

In the morning the day scholars have focused their presentations on the update discipline in gait disorders, balance and falls.

Gomez has outlined its vision on care and prevention to the problems posed by falls in the elderly.

Carmelo Gomez, deputy director of Messengers for Peace, stressed that "the best fall is that there is no" and has qualified that falls are not normal in older people despite being a widely used topical.

For its part, Diego Nicolas, Professor of Geriatric Nursing at the UCAM, stated that "the majority of falls in the elderly are caused by slipping or tripping."

All experts have agreed is to highlight the importance of the interaction of all professionals in the environment of the elderly.

Similarly, also discussed in this first conference on antioxidants and aging, and osteoporosis.

Note that in the morning session, the Chief of Geriatrics at the Hospital Clínico San Carlos, José Manuel Ribera, will be responsible for closing the symposium.

The Professor will speak on the truth or deception of the anti-aging therapies.

The following workshops will be held on exercise for older people.
