The House has shown its support for the candidature of Murcia as European Capital of Culture.
The motion was filed jointly by the Municipal People's Party and IU-LV and approved unanimously.
The councilman of Culture and European Programmes, Fatima Barnuevo has asked the House to the Municipal Corporation seconder this important project which will report to Murcia important benefits such as boosting cultural life, promoting tourism at European level and the projection of an image attractive internationally.
The motion also calls for active participation in the nomination of all citizens, social partners, cultural, socioeconomic and tourist as they are "the engine that drives the city and its resolute and decisive participation is undoubtedly one of the that can be decisive in the election for the European Capital of Culture. "
In addition, Barnuevo stressed that this is "a city project and the public" as intended "to reconcile the artistic demands the popular fervor, knowing that an event like this pede be a catalyst for the more active citizen participation in cultural life of the city. "
Finally, the mayor expressed his belief "the ability of Murcia and its citizens to develop an innovative and dynamic."
Remember that on 11 September, the Ministry of Culture published in the BOE's invitation to submit applications for the designation of European Capital of Culture, by July 12, 2010.
