Firefighters of the City of Murcia, with four representatives, managed a remarkable performance in the Vertical Tower III Space Race, held this weekend in Madrid in Spain's tallest tower (55 floors).
One of the tests that took place was to climb 33 floors (1,300 steps) with the intervention team (25 kilos in weight) and breathing with a bottle of self-contained, as if it were an emergency.
In this mode took 120 firefighters from all over Spain and other countries (Italy and Venezuela).
The representation of Murcia was carried out by firefighters of the City of Murcia Daniel Martinez Abellán, Esteban Sánchez Gálvez, Jorge German Moreno and Diego Salmerón Garcia, winning the 7 th place team out of a total of 26, a 3 º Diego (category over 50), a 4 th place of Daniel (category under 30 years), 14 th place of Esteban and 21 th place of Jorge (category 30 to 39 years).
In this test competed 1,500-meter world record holder, Spanish Arturo Casado dressed as a firefighter and he was invited for the occasion.
This athlete came second with four minutes and 58 seconds.
In the other trial was held, which consisted of climbing the 55 floors of the tower space with no equipment, gathered 150 firefighters and 150 popular athletes.
The Murcia Sánchez and Jorge Esteban German got the posts 22 and 23 respectively (Jorge German scored a 3 second place in a similar test held last month in Barcelona).
The preparation for such tests by firefighters of Murcia has taken months of hard training, which has been carried out simultaneously with his work and has been very sacrificed on the weather in Murcia is not suitable for this type of physical activity.
