'The Art of Entretelas' is based on the work of Chelete Monereo exhibited at the Museum of Fine Arts last spring
The Minister of Culture and Tourism, Pedro Alberto Cruz, and the Minister of Health, María Ángeles Palacios, this morning presented the exhibition "The Art of Entretelas', conducted by Alzheimer's patients, which opens today at 20:30 at the Museum of Fine Arts of Murcia, on the occasion of World Alzheimer's Day.
The exhibition presents the results of the first workshop of Arts and Culture Alzheimur conducted by the Dementia Unit of the Hospital of the Arrixaca of Murcia.
This workshop, which emerged from the exhibition 'Entretelas' of Chelete Monereo, opens a new line where the art is in addition to scientific research and quality evaluation in Alzheimer's disease by assessing the importance of the emotion engine.
The show aims to present the work done by the patients and thus spread this new research that has emerged in the field of art.
In this regard the Minister Pedro Alberto Cruz said that "through this workshop demonstrates that art, indeed, is useful in this case, therapy.
Every artist tries to express continued its memory footprint and this is what was intended with this work: motivating patients to remember and delve into their past through art. "
The workshop process is posted on the blog Alzheimur Foundation ( http://talleresalzheimur.blogspot.com ) and includes introductory texts and reflections to explain the interest in bringing the artist.
It has also published the book 'The Art of Interlinings, Workshops for Arts and Culture as therapy in Alzheimer's disease', presented this afternoon to coincide with the opening of the exhibition.
For its part, the Minister María Ángeles Palacios pointed out that "Alzheimer's is a disease that affects not only the patient, which is involved the whole family, friends and caregivers, so it is important to address their treatment from a global perspective, includes all those around the patient. "
The counselor explained that "with activities such as those in these workshops got to stop the disease progression, and we ensured an interaction of patients with caregivers and their families."
Palacios explained that "according to recent studies there are 8,500 people with Alzheimer's in the Region of Murcia, more than 10,000 with dementia", stressing that "forecasts are that the number of patients with Alzheimer's will double, reaching 16,000 in coming years. "
The Minister said "the effort is being made from the ministries of Health and Social Policy, Women and Immigration within Alzheimur Foundation, not only for the treatment of patients, also in the investigation."
Parker referred to the "brain bank, and the new building being built in El Esparragal, to be completed by the end of 2010 and bring together all the effort that is being done in the fight against Alzheimer's in the Region of Murcia ".
