The Health Service of Murcia has 14 EMU throughout the Region to address and resolve some 14,000 emergencies a year
The Minister of Health, María Ángeles Palacios, today introduced the new Emergency Mobile Unit (EMU) with which account Murciano Health Service (SMS) in the municipality of Murcia.
With this new UME, the region now has 14 and the second aimed at health care and primary transport.
Its field of action covers much of the capital and the districts and pay attention to more than 200,000 people.
Since it came into operation on 1 July, the UME professionals have attended 90 emergencies and is expected to solve more than 1,500 emergency assistance each year in the capital.
Palacios said that with these units "Health responds to new trends in emergency care."
Therefore, he added that "the patient to be assisted by any of the UMES will find a real hospital on wheels, which can stabilize the patient and initiate health care prior to transfer to the referral hospital."
This will save time and ensure the best conditions and specialized assistance from the outset.
The Unit is located at Avenida Miguel Indurain and the EMU-1 will move to new premises in Avenida Ciclista Mariano Rojas.
The Minister stated that "Emergency units located near major roads, with easy and quick access both to the metropolitan area of Murcia and their hamlets and roads in the region, in order to promote the best times possible response. "
The UME-14 has the latest technical and materials that make mobile emergency service in the region one of the most complete national picture.
In addition, this vehicle incorporates the most suitable equipment for the transport of infants in critical condition.
EMUs professionals attending, among others, stroke, accidents, stroke, and practice or emergency tracheotomy that requires urgent action.
To facilitate its work, the unit features a new cardiovascular equipment, incorporating a cuff-instrument used to measure blood-pressure monitor and a portable defibrillator with biphasic energy.
It also has built-in pacemaker function and the electrocardiogram (ECG) from six channels and 12 leads, pulse oximetry, capnography and measurement of noninvasive blood pressure (NIBP).
Another prominent feature extras such equipment is the possibility of transmission of ECG data over the GSM or GPRS satellite line to any PC allowing thus the implementation of remote diagnostics and immediate integration of data in medical record systems SMS electronics.
Medical supplies is also made of respiratory support equipment and trauma and immobilization systems that also is suitable for both adults and children.
Mobile units in the Region
The SMS has 14 mobile emergency units distributed throughout the Region, so that the health area of Murcia and Cartagena each have two EMU, while Lorca, Sewer, Molina, Mazarrón, La Manga, Torre Pacheco, Eagles, Caravaca , Yecla and have a Cieza.
These units provide service 24 hours every day of the year.
During 2008, the region solved UME 13,960 emergencies, among which attention to heart attacks and traffic accidents and which include the return of patients undergoing urgent angioplasty in the Hospital Universitario Virgen de la Arrixaca until referral hospital, and another series of hospital transfer.
All of them, along with the 39 emergency departments of Primary Care, part of the Emergency Plan and Emergency Murcia launched by the Ministry to effectively respond to health emergencies of the population through preventive and emergency measures in public places, at home and in nursing homes themselves.
The mobile emergency service is coordinated by the Management 061, which handles calls from regional health content of the 112 emergency telephone in close collaboration with the Directorate General of Emergency.
