IU + Greens of Murcia has filed a motion in Parliament tomorrow by calling for the creation of a plan for full compliance with European standards on safety of playgrounds in the municipality.
This was announced today Councilwoman IU + Greens in the city of Murcia, Herguedas Esther, who noted that 10 percent of the accidents suffered by children occur in recreational areas.
He referred to the European standards EN1176 and EN1177, which regulate the conditions required for play equipment and materials they are made and the distances and heights of security, among others.
He said that these rules are free application in Spain, "causing a legal vacuum," so he insisted on the need for security in the playground is a "target" for the municipality of Murcia.
In this regard, the mayor of IU + Greens said some city parks "have elements hazardous to young children, such as metal slides instead of plastic, very steep stairs and narrow stairs."
He noted that "many playgrounds are unfenced and have dirt floors, so if a child or baby falls to the ground, the blow is hard," while stating that "signage and information is also missing."
"But above all," he added there is no regular maintenance, which means that either do not perform inspections as often as needed, or are not providing the resources necessary for the preservation of parks. "
It also said the council Herguedas should ensure security in children's play areas, "instead of spending public money on expensive park development of Agatha Ruiz de la Prada," he added.
