Establish an appropriate mechanism that allows a work to benefit the Community instead of imprisonment for those convicted of certain crimes has been the subject of the meeting held this morning by the President of the Federation of Municipalities of the Region of Murcia, Miguel Angel House, the Government Delegate, Rafael González Tovar, and the President of the Supreme Court, Juan Martínez Moya.
The possibility of implementing this system should be articulated through collaborative arrangements with the various municipalities.
It is a measure contained in the Criminal Code aimed at minor, very often related to crimes against traffic safety.
Its imposition requires the consent of the prisoner and forces him to pay his unpaid cooperation in activities of public utility, established through the appropriate sentence, the imposition of a certain number of days worked.
Each year some 6,500 sentences imposed on these features, of which approximately half are pending joint.
Type activities are complementary, not paid, they do not replace jobs or compete in the labor market and must be reconciled with the job duties of those who meet the measure.
The range of social activities is very diverse.
These would support physical and mental disabilities, residential and lodging, labor and social inclusion programs or substance abuse, job search, help in therapeutic communities, sporting events or campaigns to prevent drug or alcohol .
Participation in literacy programs or Spanish for foreigners, or driver education, first aid or first aid are other actions that could make criminal.
