The Governing Council has approved a grant of 37,000 euros to the University of Murcia (UMU) to continue a research project on the effects of the declaration of the area as a Marine Reserve of Cabo de Palos-Islas Hormigas, which includes a series of studies on fish populations and the ecological impact arising from the exercise of underwater activities within its scope.
The UMU carried out since 1989 several studies on communities of organisms and bottom-dwelling species of aquatic ecosystems in the area of Cabo de Palos-Islas Hormigas, which was declared a Marine Reserve in 1995.
Since 2002, these works are made up jointly by the Community and the University through collaboration agreements.
