The PSOE asked in plenary to be declared on May 17 International Day Against Homophobia (15/05/2009)

The PSOE mayor María Dolores Abellon ensures that the survey is a step in the fight for equality for this group as well as a sign of respect and non-discrimination of citizens on their sexual orientation

In the Region of Murcia has been produced in recent times some episodes that highlight the need to overcome homophobic attitudes is why the socialist mayor María Dolores Abellon propose in Parliament next Thursday to be declared International Day May 17 Against Homophobia.

This recognition - ensures Abellon-is a step in the fight for equality for this group, a memorial to victims of sexual discrimination and a sign of respect.

More measures

Likewise, the PSOE mayor asked in plenary session that the City promote and implement the necessary measures to enable social environment, non-discrimination in a real and effective.

Active policies

Abellon also defend the need to encourage the regional government to implement active policies in education that acknowledge sexual diversity, gender equality and respect for difference, and, in collaboration with unions and business organizations, is trying to craft policies work in favor of non-discrimination on grounds of sexual orientation or gender identity.
