The indices of social exclusion in the Murcia region are higher than the national average, according to data collected in a book published by the University of Murcia and was presented at convalescence.
The contents of the book corresponds to a study conducted by the research group "Social exclusion and inequality," which has an interdisciplinary approach to the phenomena of exclusion in the region from two perspectives, quantitative and qualitative.
The group, composed of twelve researchers in the fields of Sociology, Economics, Law, Education and Social Work, has been led by Professor Manuel Hernandez Pedroza.
In presenting the work, Pedroza Hernández presented the regional rates of monetary poverty and material deprivation in 2006, that in both cases are higher than national.
The social profile of exclusion processes and life paths of it are other issues addressed in the study.
Here, exclusion is seen as a multidimensional phenomenon resulting from the combination of personal and social.
The work presented today highlights the need for a Regional Plan for Social Integration, while offering values the social support resources.
In the event, which was chaired by the rector, José Antonio Cobacho intervened Vice Chancellor University Extension, Francisco Guillermo Diaz, who explained that this research group is born connected at the Observatory of Social Exclusion at the University of Murcia.
The research was funded by the Program for Scientific Knowledge Generation Excellence Seneca Foundation of Science and Technology Agency of the Region of Murcia, whose managing director, Antonio González, also attended the presentation.
The head of the Seneca Foundation referred to the importance of funding projects like this, a "method as accurate and enriched by contributions from different fields."
Antonio Gonzalez said the policy also follows the Foundation to support young and new research groups.
The president ended the event by emphasizing that investigations like this are "clear evidence of the social involvement of the University of Murcia."
The book has been published by the publisher of the institution, EDITUM, coordinated by Professor José Antonio Gómez, in the Agora collection, which is dedicated to research and studies on various aspects of social life.
