Murcia University has launched a virtual museum, which was presented last night during a ceremony held in the cloister of the Faculty of Law, which will provide interested parties with access to their heritage.
This heritage consists of more than four hundred paintings, some of them belonging to the XVII and XVIII and other, more modern, young artists from across the assignments made to the University.
The rector, José Antonio Cobacho, said that this museum will allow "the rich artistic heritage can be seen by people as they wish and from anywhere in the world, which makes clear the mind and the universal nature of our institution."
For its part, the Vice Chancellor of University Extension, Francisco Guillermo Díaz, has stated that this artistic heritage is part of the very essence of the historical memory of the university.
The Virtual Museum of the University of Murcia is a three-dimensional space that allows visitors to tour the art treasured by the University over a century.
According to Francisco Caballero, professor of Fine Arts and coordinator of the project, the Museum "wants to be an open and dynamic project in the works and the viewer are the real stars."
Project leaders plan to incorporate into a future fund university sculpture.
