The director of the Penitentiary of Murcia, Francisco Marín, informed Cultural Cycle "Spring 2009" from April 30 to May 18 is held in such facilities, which will combine sports, musical and theatrical exhibitions , film screenings, lectures, etc., organized by the various workshops involving inmates.

The cycle was started last April 30 with a female badminton championship and the start of an athletic championship.

Francisco Marín recalled that sporting activities are widely accepted in the prison with a high participation in these and other activities throughout the year, as was the football championship "Guillermo Miranda" held last March.

The director has indicated that the occupational workshops coordinated by the Center, have the cooperation of several NGOs like the Red Cross, Parenthesis Collective and Social Association Catholic Chaplaincy develop manual activities (origami, painting and drawing, ceramics).

Also carried out workshops on health education, drug abuse and HIV prevention, socio-cultural activities (reading, cinema, cultural weeks, etc.)..

As a result of this activity, in this cultural week was held out several exhibitions, musical performances of flamenco and rock, plays and several film screenings and cultural outings scheduled at Cartagena.

This year has been chosen as a literary work Don Quixote, which will be both collective reading as several discussion / debate about the author and his work.

Moreover, the association Psychologists for Change, working with the Center permanent supportive therapies by individual, group or family and holding through a group of educators specific programs on gender violence, multiculturalism, etc. will also have a section in this week "Spring 2009" with several lectures on "How to resist and rebuild" or "Befriend yourself", etc.

Francisco Marín has expressed its satisfaction with the collaborative environment that has been generated by this cultural cycle between inmates, staff and organizations and thanked all the daily effort to overcome carrying out its participation in such activities.
