Training, research and advice on migration processes constitute the main functions of the Centre for Intercultural Studies at the University of Murcia, which was presented today at the Chamber of the Faculty of Arts.
Center Director, Professor José Alfonso Garcia, explained that it created with the intention of facilitating the exchange and flow of information generated on this issue, both at the university, as in other areas of the Region of Murcia .
Jose Alfonso Garcia spoke of the challenges posed by new realities arising from the presence of immigrants and other minorities and announced the immediate plans of the Centre, which include the creation of an Observatory for advice.
The rector of the University, José Antonio Cobacho, highlighted the value in times of economic crisis like the present, is an entity of its kind.
Cobacho alluded to the strong support that the Center has had in its constitution, in which he participated personally in the Faculties of Arts, Law and Education, among others.
Rector closed the ceremony by praising the work being done by the Vice President for Innovation and Convergence with the European Studies Centre.
Following the presentation, gave a lecture on "Multiculturalism in contemporary British cinema", by Professor Carmen Herrero, Manchester Metropolitan University.
