A few hours after the arrival of the 5 th and final stage of the 63 th edition of the Tour of Romandie, Alejandro Valverde takes stock of his first months of racing in 2009.
"Fortunately, the race was contested with a quiet period in the sun.
Yesterday, I cooled off in the queen stage and last night I was really sick, with fever and a temperature ranging between 38 and 39 degrees.
This morning I felt much better, allowing me to leave.
I have a bittersweet taste in the mouth at the end of this Tour of Romandie.
On one hand I would have liked to score a stage and the podium in Geneva while I have to be content with fourth place in the overall but on the other hand I'm pleased to have been consistent throughout the race and able to fight with first.
Just here the first part of my 2009 season.
I followed the plans, ie less and run more quietly than in previous years.
Despite that, I won three races (two stages in the Tour of Castilla and Leon and Amorebieta Spring Klasik), I'm done with the first group in the three classic in which I participated, holding the pace of the best and has run Romandie been a good thing because now I can prepare calmly facing the Tour de France.
I'll rest a few days without picking up the bike before returning to train slowly.
I would also like to train a little in height during the month of May but still I have to plan.
Return to compete in the Dauphiné Libéré, which is a kind of rehearsal before the Tour de France. "
