The Plenum of the City of Murcia has approved request the National Government not to reduce the resources allocated to the Fund for the Integration of Immigrants in the State Budget for 2009.
Councillor for Health and Social Services, Fulgencio Cervantes, explained that the decrease of these funds would be cut back to basic care earmarks as education, training, social integration and language learning, breaking social cohesion.
Cervantes points out that the Fund Strengthening Integration of Immigrants and Education promotes and enhances public policies in the areas of reception, integration, strengthening education and health.
The Secretary of State for Immigration and Emigration of the Government of Spain has announced that the fund, being connected to the autonomous regions and municipalities, to be cut by 30%, justifying it as a budget adjustment.
This cut creates a situation of widespread concern in the Autonomous Communities antisocial because it is a measure that breaks the cohesion of society and the integration of immigrants and threatening the social policy of the Autonomous Regions and Municipalities, says Cervantes.
