Faculty of the University of Murcia study the relationship between use of paracetamol during pregnancy and asthma in children (02/04/2009)

Scientists at the University of Murcia have conducted a study whose conclusions stressed that the frequent use of paracetamol during pregnancy is associated with the prevalence of pulmonary disorders in children during the preschool and maternal asthma may modify this association.

To make this work, scientists at the research group of Pediatrics reviewed the epidemiological study carried out a total of 1,741 children aged three to five years and by a questionnaire collected data on the consumption of paracetamol, symptoms of wheezing children and the presence of asthma in the mothers.

The study found that, compared with mothers who had never used the drug, there was a significant association among those who had taken it and children who suffered lung problems during the preschool years, but only among non-asthmatics.

This work has been published in the journal "International archives of allergy and immunology."

Moreover, a research group led by Professor José Antonio Carranza working on a scientific project funded by the Ministry of Science and Innovation on "The development of executive function in childhood and its relationship with self-regulation and language skills manuals. "

The aim of this study is to what extent the development of processes such as attention and inhibitory control in childhood are related to the degree of success in solving perceptual-motor task.

It will further examine the skills of children and the role of language in the development of executive function.
