The University of Murcia and the Down Syndrome Foundation organized a Conference on Volunteering (30/03/2009)

"Shared housing with people with intellectual disability" is the title of the conference organized by the Volunteer Service and Volunteerism Social Projection of the University of Murcia in collaboration with FUNDOW to be developed on Monday and Tuesday in the auditorium of School of Education.

The closing event was part of the campaign as "shared housing: independent know differently," which has been presented throughout the month of March in various faculties, schools and lecture halls at the University of Murcia.

One of the objectives of this conference is to publicize the initiative as part of Shared Housing Services FUNDOWN and from regulation establishing the University, through the Specific Agreement of Cooperation between the two entities.

In addition, this initiative aims to understand and analyze the psychoeducational model proposed by the School of Life and, in particular, the Shared Housing to promote autonomy and independence for people with intellectual disabilities.

Another objective is to analyze the figures of mediation within the psychoeducational model of the School of Life (Mediator, support and friend) and know, at the hands of real heroes, as parents, youth with disabilities and without disabilities students, their life experiences after their stay training in shared housing.

Also, the conference will be inaugurated today Monday 30 March at 16:00 hours, the coordinator of Social Service and Volunteer Screening of UMU, María José Martínez, who will deliver a talk entitled "Presentation and Exhibition Shared Housing initiative and how it regulates the Specific Agreement of Collaboration. "

Then at 18:00 pm and will develop a lecture-workshop entitled "The psychoeducational model of school life.

His contributions to promote autonomy and independence for people with intellectual disabilities ", by Professor of the Faculty of Education at the University of Murcia and a pedagogical consultant Shared Housing Area School Life FUNDOWN, Nuria Illán.

In addition, day 31, at 16:00 pm and held a roundtable with the participation of experts, under the title "The perspective of parents of youth participating in the Shared Housing."

Then at 18:30, will run another panel discussion entitled "The perspective of young people participating in Project Amigo and Shared Housing" and is hosting the closing ceremony of the conference, which will be paid by the rector University Extension University of Murcia, Francisco Guillermo Diaz, president FUNDOWN, Peter Otto.

Down Syndrome Foundation developed for ten years, a new training model aimed at achieving the greatest degree of autonomy and possible independence for persons with intellectual disabilities.

To do so, has had over the years with the participation of university students under the supervision of Professor Nuria Illán, and professionals of the Foundation.

Thus, the success led to the University of Murcia and FUNDOWN the signing of a specific collaboration agreement.

These good results are for both the group of people with disabilities, through their ability to exercise greater control over their lives, like that of university students as highly rewarding life experience and intimately connected to their professional future.

On the other hand, students who wish to obtain free credits must attend 80 percent of the sessions and abstracts of them, and thus obtain a certificate of attendance of 10 hours, aggregated for free credits Screening Service Social and Volunteer.
