The Mayor of Murcia, Miguel Ángel Cámara, chaired the dinner last night organized by the Federation of Senior Citizens' Centres in the Municipality of Murcia to elect the 2009 Senior Queen and her four bridesmaids.
Next to the mayor and candidates for election, attended the meeting were Deputy Mayor for Social Welfare Policy and Equality, María del Carmen Pelegrin, Councilman Prevention and Fire Fighting, Remigio Lopez, and the President of the Federation of Centers Senior, Simon Parraga Martinez.
After a narrow vote by the jury, was proclaimed Queen of the Elderly 2009 Pilar Olmos, representing the center-San Juan Santa Eulalia, who will be accompanied throughout the year for her four bridesmaids: Rosario Montesinos, Santiago and Zaraíche, Rosario Molina, La Ñora, Josefa Donate, Santiago El Mayor, and Carmen Pastor, La Raya.
The dinner, held at the restaurant La Torre, Bacons Bridge, brought together more than 850 people.
Before starting the meal, the 39 candidates presented in this issue held a parade down the runway, installed in the room, and received a badge of the city that was imposed by the Mayor.
The ceremony began moments before the delivery of a commemorative plaque to Natividad Navarro Lopez, who was the first Queen of Elders, elected in 2000.
In this new edition has submitted 39 candidates associated with senior centers in their respective districts.
Starting today and throughout the year, the five will be protagonists of the events arranged by the major of the municipality, whether festivals, cultural weeks, etc..
The Federation, legally established in 1987, currently has a total of 64 senior centers associated, all belonging to the municipality of Murcia.
