UCAM today celebrated the third session of the VIII International Conference on Charities and Volunteers, each with lectures by the director of the International Catholic 'Aid to the Church in Need "(ACN), Spain, Javier Menendez', and delegate Patriarchate of Moscow and
President of the Bible Society in Russia, Aleksandr Borisov.
Javier Menendez, charged that "millions of Christians in the world today suffer the lack of religious freedom."

Then, the Moscow Patriarchate's delegate and president of the Bible Society in Russia, Aleksandr Borisov, spoke on `The life of
charity in the Russian Orthodox tradition. "
Borisov reviewed from the historical point of view the phenomenon of charity in Russia and stressed the relationship innumerable examples of service and giving to others, documented from the evangelization of the country in 1020, such as Vladimir, Saint Duke Kiev, thanks to which he was baptized in the year 998 the total population in that city, capital of Russia at that time.
"Men, after being baptized, radically changed behavior and focus its efforts on serving others," he said.
Aleksandr Borisov also stated that the real revolution in the charitable work in Russia, took place from 1864.
"From this time the country began an era of rapid growth of various foundations and charities."
The delegate of the Moscow Patriarchate finally made an analysis of the current situation in this regard and explained that since the final collapse of atheism promoted by the communist regime in Moscow, the Orthodox Church has restored thousands of churches and hundreds of monasteries.
Also there have been thousands of baptisms among the population.
"However, we realize that our charitable activities are but a drop in the endless sea of economic and moral needs afflicting our country, liberated from the atheism of the state," he added.
