The City maintains the claim of Diversion to guarantee water supply to the Region of Murcia
The Plenum of the Corporation has approved this morning a motion that reflects the rejection of any change in the status of the Tajo-Segura harms the interests of Murcia.
The Popular Party has presented a consensus text that has not had the support of two opposition groups (PSOE and IU-LV).
The resolutions adopted are:
FIRST .- To express our opposition to any change in the legal regime of the Tajo Segura detrimental to the interests of Murcia.
SECOND .- To express our full support to the Tajo Segura has been the biggest factor of development and progress in the history of our region signifying the creation of thousands of jobs and that its disappearance would mean the loss of data.
THIRD .- Keeping the historical demand of Murcia about the recovery of the Ebro transfer as well as policy transfer water from surplus basins to deficit basins ensuring water supply and water for all life.
FOURTH .- State agencies to express our concern for the policy of replacing the Tajo Segura desalinated water to a loss of quality of education and an excessive price increases of the price.
Also implies a negative environmental impact by the waste of energy needed and resulting pollution.
FIFTH .- To express our support to any social mobilization will be carried out in defense of water and water for everyone Murcia and Murcia invite all to join the demonstration called for March 18 in defense of our Tajo Segura.
The PP spokesman in the City, Nuria Fuentes García-Lax, explained that the Region of Murcia and the Segura basin have a structural deficit in history.
Thus, for centuries the need for supply works to fill this gap in our land as much impact on the lives of our citizens.
When in 1979 came to Murcia over the first Tajo Segura water transferred was achieved a milestone in this region.
Another milestone for the region occurred in 2001 when, after a broad consensus, approved the National Hydrological Plan.
This looked, not only the consolidation of the Tajo Segura but also the incorporation of new water transfers through the Ebro transfer who came to definitively resolve the water shortage in our community.
There is evidence of scientific, technical and environmental sustainable water policy is to use all the resources of surface and groundwater and the use of technology to get water and fresh water.
Therefore, it is necessary to recover the great consensus reached in 2001 and re-channel the water management within the competence framework of the Spanish Constitution.
This indicates in Article 149.1 22 a) that the State has exclusive competence in legislation, regulation and concession of hydraulic resources and water that flow through more than one region.
Sources also added that one should not admit that territorial jurisdiction invade state powers as claimed by the Statute of Castilla La Mancha, which would only break the principle of solidarity and generate uncertainty in the supply of water to Murcia.
